Photo Analysis: Time is Fleeting

“Time is Passing”

Composition: The picture is of an hour glass. It is the only thing you can see in the picture, and it is the main focus. There is sand in the hour glass, mainly at the top which represents time, specifically the beginning of someone’s life.

Angle: You are looking up at the hourglass. The angle gives it power over us, because we are looking up to it. It has total control over us, just like time does.

Distance: This shot is a close up. You can see the entire hourglass, and you can see little details like the sand inside, and the simplicity of it. Your focus is completely on the hour glass.

Lighting/Shadow: The lighting is very dark. The darkness makes one feel more anxious about time, and adds to the mystery of it. The dimness represents how little one knows about the importance of time at a young age.

Wow this picture is cool. I especially love the message that you put with it. The light is dark and sad making you fell miserable that there’s not much time and it keeps diminishing. The low camera angle makes you really feel that the time we have left is important and that we should seize the time that we do have. I started at the bottom but the bars on the side of the hourglass really lead you to the top which is filled with sand. This picture has a great message to it! Good job!

This is an interesting photo. I agree that the low angle gives power to the hourglass, representative of the influence of time on our day to day lives. For me, my eyes first noticed the white sand of the hourglass and the bars led my eyes downward toward the empty bottom half of the glass. I think doing a close up really helps enforce the message of the overall photo. It keeps the viewer focused on the hourglass and the control it has, instead of letting the viewer get distracted by a background or setting.

SWEET! What a picture. I also agree that the low angle of the shot makes the hourglass seem more majestic and powerful. It makes me feel like everything in the world revolves around time. In my opinion my eyes are first drawn to the light hitting the glass in the middle of the picture. From there my eyes are drawn to the two blue ends of the hourglass. Great photo.

I really like this picture andrea! I really like the meaning that you put into the picture. It is a really good thought that the sand at the top represents the begining of ones life. By having the shot be close-up, it really makes the hour glass the focal point of the picture. Your focus immediatly goes to the hour glass. The low angle camera shot gives the hour glass a lot of power over the human. I like how you said it has control over us like time does because that is very true. The hour glass will run out when our life is over. The dark lighting does make it look mysterious. The mystery could be about when your life is going to end.

Mysterious looking. Im interested in the fact that you gave the idea of time a looming, negative teeling as opposed to a brighted feel as there is much sand left in the glass. THis picture does give the feel that we are being crushed by a deadline rushing up on us.
The lighting is very dark and dreary diving us a very sad hopeless feeling.
The low angle shot gives time the power. The hourglass seems to be right over us with sheer size and power. The shot makes us feel small and dependant on this force controling us. The close up also makes the glass look big. It makes the viewer feel like it is unchangeable; like our time will stop one day and we can do nothing to stop it.
My eye is drawn fisrst to where the sand is to the light color and then travels up and down the glass, seeing the whole picture.
I think that this was a very creative idea and was a very well thought out photo.

This picture definately follows a theme. Great job. I like how the low camera angle really makes the hourglass look ominous and very important. Also, the shadows and small amount of light create a feeling of importance. Together the elements in this photograph create a feeling that time is running out and that everything eventually comes to end. It also teaches a good lesson that we should live our lives to the fullest because we never know when something could happen that will end the time we have with our family and friends. Great job!
